Biker Chicks best Timesaving Ideas for Scrapbooking.
April/May 2009

Great ideas for saving time are worth their weight in gold. This month, the Biker Chicks share a few of their favorite strategies for planning and staying organized--two ways to make the most of your scrapping time.

  • Tip 1
Plan ideas by jotting them down in a journaling book.
I like to plan my ideas in my journal books. I usually jot down the journaling in my book first. Then when I have spare time, I sit down, choose some yummy supplies, edit my photos and then start work on my idea from my journal.

  • Tip 2
Create a creative binder with inspirational magazine pages
  • When I see something inspirational from magazines, I tear them out and add them to my creative binder.

  • Tip 3
Prepare page kits for your projects
  • Once you've printed your photos, go ahead and select the papers, embellishments, and items you'd like to include in your layout. Place everything inside a sheet protector. You can even include a layout sketch on a post-it note and place it inside as well. Store these kits in a binder in chronological order. Then when you're ready to scrapbook, you can just grab a kit and start working.

Prepping page kits is the number one time-saving tip of all our design team members: most of the Biker Chicks do this to save time!

  • Tip 4
    Create an organized, efficient workspace
  • Arrange your office in an efficient work triangle. I put the items I use the most right behind my working desk. I can easily slide to my computer on my chair with casters. I keep frequently used tools, pens and adhesives in a tool holder on my desk. Being organized saves time!

  • Tip 5
Keep a journal with notes on photos
  • I keep a journal with notes on certain photos. When it comes time to journal on a page, I have all my thoughts collected in one place and it's easier to get it down on the page.

  • Tip 6
Convert your photos to black and white
  • Converting your pictures to black and white will gain you a lot of time. You'll be able to coordinate them with your favorite collection without worrying about a clash of colors.
    From Biker Chick Alexandra Sirugue-MacLeod.

  • Tip 7
Use coordinating products from a single line or collection
  • Make your creative process easier by using coordinating products from one product line. Everything will match/go together, so you can get your pages done with less thought and your pages will look sharp and finished.
    From Biker Chick Renée Foss.

  • Tip 8
After a project, cut left over paper into card-sized or mini-album sized pieces
  • Often when creating a layout, I mix strips or small sections of many patterned papers. When I'm done, I make a habit of cutting the leftover patterned paper down into 6x6 squares of 4x6 rectangles. These make quick work of cards and/or mini-albums quickly since the cutting is already done!

  • Tip 9
Store like items in baskets or bowls
  • Storing like items together in baskets or bowls takes much less time than hunting through every drawer and compartment in your scrapbook space. For example, I keep all my buttons in a repurposed fishbowl, instead of in their original packaging.

  • Tip 10
Keep a journal or Word document
  • Keep a journal or a Word document to record journaling or page ideas as they come to mind. By writing down the stories or memories while they are fresh and even combining them with photos, the journaling comes much easier when it's time to scrap and your pages will come together easier.
    From Biker Chick Greta Hammond.

  • Tip 11
    Keep an inspiration notebook
  • Keep a folder or notebook full of inspiration. Cut out pages that you like from magazines or print ideas from online galleries and keep them all together in a notebook. When you do have time to scrap, you can browse through inspiration that you love and gather ideas quickly!
